We made the most of our short week. The girls came back full of energy and ready to learn. The girls wrote several ten second scripts about their Christmas memories. Each memory focused on an abstract noun. Working with a partner, they recorded each other and then built their Animoto. Take a look at their creations. We will enjoy them together next week.

Math has been all about fractions. The girls worked through a cumulative fraction review with great determination. Our holiday Edpuzzles made us laugh and put us in a sentimental mood while problem solving.

The girls had a little fun with The Grinch and practiced editing with soundbites from the movie. Then they followed a step by step tutorial to illustrate The Grinch. More holiday themed grammar next week.

Next week is all about the Gift Service. We spent time today looking over the schedule and discussing costumes. Please click here to see costume information.

The girls love the math activities that we use from Anthony & The MashUp Team. Here's an example:

These clever Fourthies are working on creating their own challenges, using one of our favorite sites-http://getemoji.comWe will solve them next week. See how you do with these two challenges created by Blair and Ruby:
Most girls have completed their Reindeer Resort mini project. This activity involved finding equivalent fractions and then designing spaces for each reindeer. The only catch was that each reindeer had to have easy access to the common space. The strategies were varied and creative. We reviewed adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. The girls are pros at reducing to simplest form and turning improper fractions into mixed numbers. They solved additional fraction problems with some tender EdPuzzles. Ask your daughter to give you a tour of her Google Classroom to see the EdPuzzles as well as other activities.

We wrapped our writing lab. The girls wrote an informative paragraph about their partners from Mrs. Cavallo's class and are in the process of creating a magazine cover that features their partner. The girls will present the paragraphs and magazine covers to their partners next week. Here's a sneak preview from Lauren (featuring her partner, Betsy):
The girls are doing a great job summarizing the chapters they read in All of-a-Kind Family and comprehension is strong. We have been working with the concept of abstract nouns. The girls illustrated beautiful holiday scenes for our hall bulletin board. They added abstract nouns so folks (adults and students) can take what they need (patience, hope, gratitude, love, etc.) to enjoy this time of year. And to extend the concept further, the girls made abstract noun ornaments for one of the playground holly trees. An abstract noun multimedia project is in the works for next week.

We talked about Winter Storm Diego and the possibility of a snow day. I will post a vodcast  early Monday morning with the girls' "assignments" if we are closed. The girls are pretty excited about a possible storm so I suggest they check out these Snow Day Rituals
